The town of Gabrovo is the biggest town in the Central Balkan region. Being in the central of Bulgaria, it is a tourist stop for everyone who has headed towards the Danube, Rhodopes, the Black sea or to the capital of Bulgaria.
Gabrovo enjoys moderate continental climate and montanious setting. The winter is cold, the summer is warm. The air is fresh from the nearby mountain and the fast river splitting the town in two.
Gabrovo is known as the town of laughter and is famous for the only House of Humour and Satire in the world, exhibiting works of artists from more than 150 countries.
Gabrovo has also a Planetarium, many churches and monasteries. The open-air Ethnographic Museum "Etara", with many workshops and a nice hotel is just 10 min drive from the town.
Gabrovo offers numerous festivals and festivities, spread all year round, like the International Biennal of Humour and Satire, the May Festivities of Culture, the International Biennal of Humour and Satire in the Arts, Balkan Youth Festival, Days of Chamber Music, etc.
It is worth visiting the town for these festivities or spend a day in "Etara" the middle of June, when is the herbgatherers day to buy some love elixir herbs :)
