HISTORY OF VIDIN
Vidin is situated in Northwestern Bulgaria right on the bank of the Danube river- which is the natural border of Bulgaria with Romania.
The town of Vidin is the main town in the area and has been a flourishing commercial and cultural center ever since Roman times. The town was the center of Vidin kingdom until Bulgaria fell under Turkish rule in the XV- th century.

The region of Vidin has a rich cultural and historical past. A multitude of monuments stand to prove that the region has been inhabited since antiquity. The cave of Magoura has preserved works of primitive art three thousand years old- 700 rock drawings which represent the biggest protohistorical gallery on the Balkan peninsula.
Vidin offers numerous parks and sights for relaxation among beautiful nature. The town's garden is extremely picturesque all year round.
Unocmparable charmony has combined several styles in the arraignments and decoration of the gardens, the threes, the shrubs and alleys, reminds of an Austrian baroque park.
The garden was constructed in four major periods and its construction starts in 1878.
Except for the magnificent green sights the park offers numerous architectural monuments- “Veda” theater, the mosque and library Pazvantaglu. Telegraph gate, the Turkish post, “Baba Vida Fortress”, different memoriam monuments and numerous entertainment sights.
Vidin was created during the III century before Christ. It is considered that the first populatio of the sight is the Thracian tribe Tribali.
The Roman Rule in these territories starts during the third decade before Christ and lasts 46 years. The town was included in the Roman Provinces Mizia, Upper Mizia and Dakia.
The town bears the name Bononia during the Roman epoch.
During the Middle ages the town is called Badin (until the beginning of XI century) and Bdin (afterwards) and was a center of a military- administrative district.

During the second half of XII century it is a major town of the Vidin principality and later of the Vidin kingdom.
The Turkish name of the town is Vidin. Written sources say that it has been flourishing trade and economic center as one of the major port.
